In the new-town Nieuwland near Amersfoort about 4500 houses
are being built. The last quarter of the town, Waterwijk (Watertown), is
situated behind the A1 Motorway. The houses are marked in red. |

The site has a slope of about 5 meters. The lowest level is the normal level for the whole quarter. The road is at the upper level. This specific situation asked for a special design. We situated the living-room at the first floor. From here one has a splendid view over the water. A loggia is attached to the living room. Sleeping rooms and study are at the ground floor. The entrance, a big room and the parking lot are situated at the second floor. The parking lot can be reached by a small bridge. |

The houses meet the strict environmental requirements for
the Nieuwland area as dictated by the local authorities. Waterwijk is also
part of the EC 1 MW photo-voltaic project initiated by the utility company
REMU. In this design we made a 'PV-spoiler' at the edge of the roof. Approximately 4 m2 of transparent panels with photovoltaic cells have been included in the eaves of these houses. Since the PV systems can also be seen from the north side, transparent panels have been used. |
