Cemetery Harenerhof Haren

A cemetry integrated in the surrounding landscape.
Landscape architect, Hollandschap/ Eurolandscape, designed three oval terps (hills in the landscape).
BEAR Architecten designed the Aula building.

The design is based on the idea to integrate environmental technological aspects, such as using solar energy, into the building in such a way that they help create a special atmosphere.
 The design pays special attention to light and water, which are the ´elements of life´. The rainwater runs from the lowest point of the roof to a curved channel near the entrance. This symbolizes the passing of time. The curved channel, which is situated along the retaining wall of the cemetery, carries the water to a basin for further use.
