Sustainable houses in Zoetermeer

These 35 sustainable houses have been built as 7 rows of 5 houses on the site of a former orchard. The characteristic ambience of the area has been maintained and the new residential area has become an ecologically friendly example. These houses, situated on the edge of the area, are the visual image of the neighbourhood.
The houses have been built between water and land, with the houses on the corner being located partly in the water. A timber landing stage provides access to the houses and forms a link to the boats. The outdoor space consists of an attached conservatory and a landing stage.
The gardens in between the rows of houses have communal ownership, so that all houses enjoy optimum benefit from their location near the water.
These low-energy houses have an energy performance ratio of 0.7, are well insulated, and contain energy-efficient systems. Passive solar energy is gained via the conservatory. The roofs of the conservatories contain both a solar collector for domestic hot water and a photovoltaic system. The PV system, integrated with transparent laminates, has a lower solar transmittance (30%) and reduces the heat load of the conservatory. Each system is approximately 0.504 kWp.
